Museum Poldi Pezzoli in Milan

Museum Poldi Pezzoli is one of the unjustly less visited museums in Milan maybe because the ticket price is a bit high; nevertheless, the ambient of the museum is incredible, and the collection is by no means ordinary.

It started as a private collection of Gian Giacomo Poldi Pezzoli and his mother Rosa Trivulzio. Because of its vast collection it may seem that the museum had a very long history. In fact, it started as a private collection and the exposition area was a real home of this nobleman.
The collection consists of paintings, sculptures, weapons, porcelain, glass, textiles, watches and jewellery, exhibited in an exceptionally beautiful house.
The Dante study room and the Sala dei Vetri di Murano (Muran glass room) were actually a private study room and a bedroom of the collector.
In Sala delle Armi (Gun Room) you will be able to see ancient Lombard armour and German firearms that were famous for their accuracy.
The best-known paintings on display are: "Portrait of a Woman" by Pollaiuolo (Italian painter and sculptor of the Renaissance period), "Madonna of the Book" and the "Deposition" by Botticelli (Italian painter of the early Renaissance period).
According to the wish of Poldi Pezzoli, different rooms of the house were renovated in styles of different periods in the past. The staircase and the bedroom in Baroque style, the lobby in Rococo style, Sala Nera (Black room) in Renaissance style and the study room in the 14th century style. Different styles of the exposition area and all of the works of art make this museum one of a kind and certainly worth visiting.
