London’s Science Museum

London’s Science Museum

The Science Museum is located in the Kensington district of London, and its collection consists of more than 300 thousand items, instruments and machines. The museum welcomes more than two million visitors each year, who all come to see the many steamboat engines, World War Two airplanes, a model of the command of the Apollo space mission, a collection of medical instruments etc.

The museum was founded in 1857. During the first years of its existence, it was part of the South Kensington Museum along with the Victoria and Albert Museum. However, in 1858, these two museums separated. The airplanes, engines, cars and a large number of inventions which shaped history are exhibited in the seven floors of the museum. Exhibitions are separated into various themes. Visitors can also see the development of medicine, space travel, as well as of telecommunication.

The Science Museum has its own library, which had been called the Library of Science, Medicine and Technology until the 1960s. It contains old books and manuscripts, and serves as a great research point for researchers from around the world. The history of science and the biographies of scientists are still kept in Imperial College.
The museum is definitely worth a visit because, apart from the standard visit, you can also visit an IMAX cinema and its virtual reality simulator.

The museum is especially interesting for younger visitors.

Entry to the museum is FREE OF CHARGE.
Entry to the IMAX cinema and the VR simulator are charged.
