The museum opened its doors to the public on September 25, 1998 with the goal of celebrating one of the city’s greatest symbols - Fado music - by realizing its importance in cultural identity.
Mission of the museum: As the museum itself states, its mission is reflected in the activities inherent in achieving the general goals of gathering, preserving, researching, interpreting, promoting, discovering and exhibiting documents and fruits of Fado and Portuguese guitar, spreading knowledge about this musical genre and promoting its learning.
