Museum of the Duomo Cathedral

Museum of the Duomo Cathedral in Milan is a museum dedicated to Duomo and its construction. Even though it may sound less interesting to some, you may change your mind in the narrow corridors of the museum while observing all different faces of hundreds of statues in all the sizes.

The museum was opened in 1953 due to the need to keep and preserve all the pieces with regards to the construction and the history of the Duomo Cathedral. The museum spreads over 2000 m², it has 26 exposition rooms where treasures of Duomo and art pieces that come from Milan’s cathedral are exhibited. Everything is displayed in chronological order which allows visitors to see all phases in the construction of the cathedral from its start in 1386 till today.
Here you can find: Duomo’s treasures that consist of ivory and gold works and paintings from the 8th to 17th century, small and large statues from the capitals of Cathedral pillars, stained glass panels that date back to the 15th and 16th century, tapestries and much more.

(!) The entrance to the museum is the same as for the Royal Palace Museum - it is on the right side of Duomo facing the Cathedral’s main entrance.
