Old Orthodox Chruch and Museum

The old Orthodox church, also called the Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel in Baščaršija was built in 1539. The church is built of hewn stone, which does not fit into medieval Byzantine structures because the church has a rectangular base and elements of Islamic architecture. For centuries, valuable relics have been brought to the church from all around the world, among which was a gift of special value from patriarch Arsenije IV Jovanovic who donated the relics of St. Tekla to the church.

Vidovdan Heroes Chapels

The Chapel of Vidovdan Heroes (The Chapel of Saint Archangels of George and Gabriel) became a tourist attraction in 2014 on the centenary of "Sarajevo Assassination". On the Orthodox holiday Vidovdan, on 28 June 1914, Crown Prince Ferdinand and his wife Sofia were killed in Sarajevo. The assassination was carried out by Gavrilo Princip with the help of the members of the „Young Bosnia“ movement, as a symbol of resistance to the Austrian occupier. All members of the movement were convicted, then imprisoned for life.

Brusa Bezistan

Brusa Bezistan was built in 1551 by Rustem Pasha, who was the Grand Vizier of sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. The facility was used for silk trading produced by the founder himself in Bursa, Turkey. The building has a rectangular base (29.5 x 20.5 m), built of stone and covered with six large and two smaller domes. It has four entrances from all four sides of the world. During the siege of Sarajevo in 1992-1995 Brusa Bezistan was severely damaged.
