Madame Tussauds is a museum opened in 1884 in London to depict the world’s celebrities immortalized in wax in natural size. It is highly innovative and popular worldwide. The same museum was later opened in New York.
How did it all start?
Sculptor Marie Tussaud created her first wax sculture exhibition in London in 1835. Even though the tickets for the museum were cheap, it was a great success. The wax sculpture collection of Madame Tussauds became the main tourist attraction of London. In 2010, the London Planetarium was moved into the west wing of the museum. Today’s wax figures in the museum include historical and royal figures, film and sport stars. It boasts several permanent exhibitions separated into categories.
The museum’s collection is divided by theme:
- The VIP section is reserved for Holywood stars such as Morgan Freeman, Leonardo di Caprio, Nicole Kidman, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and many more.
- The sports section: here, you will find some of the best sport stars, including Tiger Woods, Mohammad Ali, and there is also a section dedicated to the royal family, where you can see wax sculptures of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince Henry and many more.
- Also notabale are sections with famous scientists and artists, where figures such as Picasso, Einstein, Darwin are immortalized in wax, while the world leaders section depicts Winston Churchill, Sarkozy, Margaret Thacher, Reagan, Martin Luther King and many more. Here, you will be able to watch a 4D film where Marvel superheroes appear.
Even though entrance to the museum isn’t cheap, it is still very popular.
