Risan is famous for its summer events. The most famous events organized in the city of Risan are: Risan's night festival, Risan's Makaruli festival and Lazar's Saturday.
RISAN NIGHTS is festival dedicated to local cuisine and music. For the last 20 years the festival is held in the main and only square in Risan. The event is held every year at the begining of August, from 8:00 pm. Various musicians and actors come to Risan Nights and hold their performances.
RISAN MAKARULI is another festival dedicated to local cuisine. It is held every yest, in mid-August and it is organized by the "Women of Risen". Here visitors will have the possibility to taste many local specialities, however the main focus is on Risan's Maraculi. This is a special pasta dish prepared accoridng to local Risan's recipe. It tastes delicious and visitors should definitely try it if they visit Risan in this period of the year.
LAZAR'S SATURDAY is one of the most beautiful Orthodox holidays. On that day, the cortege starts from Risan, from the Church of St. Peter and Paul and walk to the Banja Monastery where people pray, then picks the flowers from the courtyard of the monastery. The day after, people wash their faces with water and flowers that they took from the Monastery and the nuns treat each guest with cookies.
