The Museum is focused on traditional culture, history and local lore. It is one of the oldest museums in the northwest and it was founded in 1871. Nowadays, the Museum has more than 225 thousands of exhibits from different areas of Karelian life: nature, archeology, history, ethnography and culture. The exhibits represent Karelian life in the context of not only Russian History, but the world history as well. There are 22 halls with various exhibitions.
Besides, tourists are offered excursions, guided tours, and audio guide service in different languages. Tourists can buy souvenirs there and take this part of Karelia back home.
Moreover, the Museum is located in circle square (Lenin Square) – the place, where stunningly beautiful photos can be taken!
