San Miguel Market. Spain is recognizable for its markets that have withstood the test of time and modern lifestyle and remain popular today among the local population, but also among all visitors who come to Spain. Markets tell a story, they have their own history, they are more than what we imagine as a market. There are a total of 46 markets in Madrid, some of which have retained their old appearance, some of which have been modernized. Although the markets are characterized by being located in the city center, some of these in Madrid can be found in various parts of the city but you will find the San Miguel market in the center.
The San Miguel market was opened in 1916 and today is one of the rare examples of iron architecture in Madrid. It is located on the square of the same name, and in 2009 the market was renovated thanks to business people from Madrid and their donations. During this period, the market was in great question whether it would be able to maintain its work as before, because shopping malls and stores were opened near it and the market was suffering. However, thanks to the renovation, the opening of new bars near it, this market is living its old glory today. It is a favorite place among visitors, and just like the Boqueria market in Barcelona, this market is considered one of the most visited. And the San Miguel market that was modeled on Barcelona's Boqueria market during the renovation.
Mercado de San Miguel is a very nicely decorated market with its old crown. The best gastronomic dishes in the city are right here. Mediterranean dishes, Iberian ham, seafood, a variety of cheeses, fruits, vegetables, wines from all over Spain and much more is offered in this recognizable market
