SIM Cards in Egypt

There are three main operators in Egypt: Vodafone, Orange, and Etisalat. Egypt’s operators offer good roaming rates and prepaid credit, which allows users to take advantage of cheap local offers and deals.
We understand that most visitors are mainly interested in internet packages so we will make a price list of what we consider to be the best prepaid offers. Please pay attention as the offers may change from time to time.
There is a tourist SIM which can be purchased for 20 EGP. You may add the following internet packages to this card which are valid for 30 days:

4 GB – 60 EGP
6 GB – 80 EGP
8 GB – 100 EGP
12 GB – 120 EGP
20 GB – 250 EGP
40 GB – 400 EGP

All three operators offer, more or less, the same packages and the prices can be slightly different.

(!) SIM cards can be purchased almost anywhere, but you might be asked to provide an ID.
(!) Avoid buying SIM cards at the hotel. They will charge more. For the 8 GB package, they can ask 260 EGP, which is 2.5 times more.
(!) Once you purchase a SIM card you will need to activate it. Ask the person who sold you the card to activate it, as the settings are in Arabic and you might not be able to understand what it says.
