What to wear in Egypt

What to wear in Egypt

Even though there is no dress code in Egypt for tourists, one should know Egyptian men and women, Muslims and Christians, dress rather conservatively. You may notice men wearing shirts, long trousers, and shoes. They generally avoid wearing shorts and T-shirts. When it comes to Egyptian women, some of them might wear clothes which completely cover them, but in most cases, only their hair is covered.

This doesn’t mean that visitors cannot wear shorts. In the tourist regions, on the beach or in the hotel it is acceptable to wear shorts and T-shirts, as well as a pareo over a bathing suit. In public places, museums or mosques, one should be more covered. Even though no one will say anything if you are wearing shorts when visiting Pyramids in Giza or temples in Luxor, we would advise you to respect the tradition and culture of the country that you are visiting.
Fluffy and wide dresses or trousers and shirts made of linen are truly excellent choices, taking into consideration that is it very hot in Egypt, especially during the day, when most excursions take place.
