Herceg Novi:

Žanjice i Mirišta

Žanjice i Mirišta

Žanjice and Mirišta are two beaches on the Luštica peninsula, across a portion of the sea from Herceg Novi. Boats take tourists to these two beaches every day, with the meeting point being the Škver pier in Herceg Novi, and the two-way ticket fee is €5 per person. The two beaches are favorite holiday spots when major national holidays are being celebrated. Barbecuing and camping are permitted on the two beaches, back between the olive gardens and the old trees. The beaches are covered in gravel, surrounded by grey stones, and the water is truly exquisite, with a transparent blue color, where one can see the clean, pristine sea floor. Sea urchins are constantly present on these beaches, and can always be found sitting on the rocks, signalizing to visitors that the water is exceptionally clean. Judging by the number of sea urchins inhabiting the beaches, one can easily deduce that the water on these two beaches is the cleanest in the whole Montenegrin Adriatic shore.

However, certain parts of the beaches and shorelines are sea urchin-free, and there is no danger of harming one in these spots. The view from the beaches captures the Mamula island, with the beaches being separated from one another with a 500-meter-long path. Žanjice is a sandy/gravely beach, whereas Mirišta has more of a stone surface. Not far from the latter, one can reach the very cliffs of the peninsula, where strong waves hit the stone, and where, at the very edge of the water, the Arza fortress, a former prison, is located.

A spot on the beach, including a parasol and sun loungers, costs €10. You can also rent paddle boats and surfing boards, with the price for the latter being €10 per hour.
