A tree of wishes appeared on an Onego embankment in 1996. The idea of its author — Kent Andersen from Umeo (Petrozavodsk sister city) was to help the inhabitants of the city as well as the guests to make their dreams come true. The image of a tree of wishes comes from a Swedish folklore. A tree of wishes is represented as a big black tree with an ear. It’s there where you are supposed to whisper your wish. Surprisingly enough, a tree of wishes is made from the original pine tree, covered by glass-cloth.
As envisioned by its author, originally the tree was meant to be decorated with brass bells.
