The Design Museum is Barcelona’s cultural center that aims to promote, teach and interpret different design styles in the world. This building is both a museum and a science laboratory. It focuses on four types of design: space design, product design, information design and fashion design. It was established in 2008. The futuristic design of the building was proposed by MBM architecture firm. Even though it was established in 2008, the museum gradually moved in current building in 2014. You may get amazing inspiration in the museum, but also learn something new. The museum has both permanent and temporary exhibitions.
It has over 70.000 items, from decorative art, to pottery, textile, footwear, clothes, and graphics. The museum welcomes everyone – children and adults. In addition to that, uniquely designed cars, both new models and old-timers, are also permanently exhibited. In the museum you may see different kinds of cars, jewelry, space decorations, clothes, photographs, paintings, etc.
Some works of art originate from the 13th century and up to the 20th. When it comes to fashion, there are pieces from the 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th century that have served as great inspiration for designers. This is a museum of great beauty and even greater ideas.
