Madeira Aquarium is located inside the ruins of a small fort Sao Joao Baptista in Porto Moniz in the north-west part of Madeira Island. It is a small aquarium that exhibits incredible sea world of Madeira’s waters. It holds only 12 tanks of which only one is of great size and holds astonishing 500.000 liters of water. In the largest aquarium, you will evidence numerous species of fish co-existing, which demonstrates the uniqueness and beauty of Madeira’s marine life. The largest attractions of the aquarium are certainly the sharks which swim together with stingrays and other fish species. If you don't mind waiting for a while, they will pass close enough to the glass and pose for a perfect picture.
