For centuries, the Jajce Fortress has been firmly defending its city. Each stone of this fortress is a special story. If you walk through this place you will feel its power. At an altitude of 470 m, the true historical wealth of the town of Jajce rises. The construction of this invincible fortress began in the 13th century, but it was also upgraded centuries later, from the period of the Ottoman Empire until the time of the Austro-Hungarian rule.
Jajce Fortress was the capital of the Kingdom of Bosnia, which speaks volumes about its importance. This fortress was the guardian of its city. With its walls, it defended it from many attackers and invaders for a long time. Her position itself is very interesting to many researchers and those she has intrigued. Many legends originated from this place.
One very interesting legend recorded by Anastasije Đorić says: “The city was so decorated towards the river, that it was not possible to storm or besiege it here, and there is no convenient place where the camp could be located. even if it were possible, it would do little harm to the city, because it was built on such a hill and on such a solid foundation. "
Much has been said through these few sentences, through which we can see the importance of the position of this fortress. The fortress covers an area of 11,200 m2 and the length of the walls is 1300 meters. Numerous heraldic analyzes show the similarities of this fortress with the fortress in the royal city of Bobovac. On the fortress itself on the southwest side is carved the royal coat of arms which is a mirror and a symbol of the time from which it originates.
Its importance is reflected in the fact that it has been declared a national cultural monument. With great right to future visitors, and I believe that those who have already visited the Jajce Tower will agree with me, I can say that it is a time machine that briefly takes us back to the past and gives us a special picture and experience of that period. Jajce Tower is another of the many reasons to visit the town of Jajce.
