Where to buy public transport tickets and passes

The previous section defined the prices of public transport in Budapest, but now we will talk about where you can buy the aforementioned tickets and passes

The airport – The center of Budapest public transport (BKK) has vending spots on terminals 2A and 2B. They are open between 8am (2A) or 9am (2B) and 10pm (both terminals). There are also vending machines if you arrive to early or too late. Payment can be completed via credit card as well.

BKK has customer support centers on Budapest’s main transport stations such as Deák tér, Ferenciek tere, Blaha Lujza tér or the Keleti Train Station.

Vending machines – these purple machines can be found on tram and bus stations, as well as at all metro stations in Budapest. You can buy all ticket types on these machines, and payment is done in the local currency or via credit card.

On public transport – on some buses and trams you can buy tickets individual tickets from the driver. Bear in mind that tickets bought this way cost a bit more, so an individual ticket bought from the driver will cost 450HUF instead of the normal 350HUF.

Kiosks on metro stations sell individual tickets exclusively.
