The City Museum of Herceg Novi is located in Mirka Monenića Street 9, namely very close to the historical part of Herceg Novi and Njegoševa Street, the main walkway of the city. The house is the endowment of Mirko Komnenić, who donated the house to the city after his death in 1940, asking in his will for it to be turned into a museum.
Mirko Komnenić was born in Herceg Novi in 1870. He attended school in Slovenia and Switzerland. Komnenić founded the Serbian Creditor’s Guild in Herceg Novi, but he also conducted propaganda and intelligence work for Serbia and Montenegro against Austria-Hungary. He was the minister of social affairs and public health, and was even unjustifiably imprisoned on the island of Mamula. In Russia, he rallied volunteer soldiers for the Serbian Army to fight at the Salonika Front, he was chosen as deputy of the Bay of Kotor in the People’s Congress of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and was elected mayor of Herceg Novi in 1930. Mirko Komnenović was awarded the Order of Saint Sava 1st and 3rd degree, the Order of the Eagle with Swords, The Yugoslav Crown 4th degree, the Russian orders of Saint Vladimir 4th degree, as well as the French Legion of Honor.
The Museum contains a historical collection, an archeological collection, an ethnological collection, as well as a collection of icons.
The house itself was designed in the late Baroque style and at first sight it gives out an air of its dignified and highly respectable owners, Mirko Komnenović and his wife, Olga. The house also contains a botanical garden with over 100 species of Mediterranean and sub-tropical flora.

Reduced ticket price: €1 – for groups of over five persons, as well as for children under the age of 12.
