Tivat is one of the most modern cities on the Montenegro coast. Tivat is located in the Bay of Boka Kotorska, 10 kilometers from Kotor. Tivat is home to numerous sights, the amazing Flower Island, St. Mark's Island, Island of Our Lady of Mercy, Tivat's Riva and the village Lower Lastva.
Located on the Prevlaka Island, the Monastery of the Saint Archangel Michael is an Orthodox monastery. The island is also called “the Flowers island” by the locals and it is only 1.5.km away from Tivat. This monastery was built on the remains of a Benedictine temple. From the ninth to the fourteenth century, it significantly marked the epoch of development of the city of Tivat. In the twelfth century, the Serbian Archbishop, Saint Sava, established Zeta Diocese at this very place.
Our Lady of Grace Island is a small island, located in the Bay of Tivat. The length of this island is 160 meters and it is approx. 800 meters from the shore. On one side of the island, the depth of the sea is less than 1 meter, where it is possible to stand. On the island is the Catholic Church of Our Lady of Grace, dedicated to the conception of the Holy Virgin. There is also a small monastery, a bell tower and a courtyard.
Saint Mark’s Island is located near the city of Tivat, about 25 minutes by boat from the main waterfront. The old name of this island is St Gabriel, and the locals call it STRADIOTI. There was a church on the island dedicated to St Gabriel. The coast of this island is 4 kilometers long. The island is abundant in pine trees and olive groves. It was owned by the French club MEDITERANEE for decades.
Our Lady of the Angels Church is located on the isthmus called Verige, right across the city of Perast. The church belongs to the municipality of Tivat. Among the locals, this church bears the name Our Lady of Oriz, coming from Italian word “soriso” which means “a smile". The sailors, when returning from long journeys and sailing into "their waters," would laugh with joy. The first thing they would actually see was this small church on the rock.
Pine is the name of Tivat waterfront, the main promenade by the sea and the port of this city. There are numerous cafes and restaurants on Pine where guests and locals like to drink their coffee, go for a walk and go shopping. Pine waterfront is always sunny, full of people, children and street musicians. On this promenade stands the moored, and sometimes anchored, sailboat "Jadran".
