Beaches of Ulcinj

The entire Montenegrin coast boasts many beautiful beaches and blue sea. Nevertheless, the Ada Bojana, often referred to as “The Copacabana of Montenegro“, a 13-kilometer long sandy beach, is probably among the most prominent and most beautiful in the country. Other notable beaches include Valdano, Ženska Plaža and Utjeha.

Ada Bojana Beach is located in Montenegro, at the very end of the country’s sea shore, just next to the border with Albania. This slice of paradise is located a mere 30-minute drive away from Ulcinj. An ada is a river island on the river of Bojana, which drains off into the Adriatic Sea. This long beach, often referred to as “The Copacabana of Montenegro“, is 13-kilometers long split into two by the island, creating a sort of delta. Ada Bojana is one of the gems of the shore of Montenegro, a place that amazes all who spend even a day on it. It is perfect for all ages. It is believed that the beach was created in the 19th century, when a Trogiran ship, the Merito, was stranded on the shore between the two islands.

Valdanos beach

Valdanos beach

Valdanos is a cove located 5 kilometers northwest from Ulcinj and is part of the Ulcinj Riviera. Behind this beach, there are over 19 thousand olive trees that constitute a unique olive garden reservation. The Valdanos beach is surrounded by a pine forest, a tourist bungalow village, and the sea is crystal clear and blue, which all makes the site enchanting in its own right. Valdanos beach is 400 meters long and it is not a simple place, it has its own interesting history. Valdanos used to be the city’s main pier, where pirates and sailors alike found shelter. Sailors parked their ships in the pier after long voyages.

Ladies Beach

Ladies Beach or Ženska Plaža – An unusual beach during the summer months, which doesn’t allow men to access it (the name literally translates as “Women’s Beach“). The beach has a history, a sort of a legend, and it is our right as visitors to consider it either true or false. Alija was a very powerful and wise man who loved his wife, but she couldn’t get pregnant. Old customs dictated that he should leave his wife because of this to mary a woman who could bear his children, but, as Alija couldn’t bare the thought of the woman he loved being in someone else’s hands.
