The Saadian Tombs

The Saadian Tombs

The Saadian Tombs are one of the most popular tourist attractions in Marrakech. The tombs were opened to the public in 1917 when they were also discovered. Sultan al-Ghalib Abdullah built the first tomb in which the body of his father and the founder of the Saadi Sultanate, Muhammad al-Sheikh, was laid to rest. The first leader of the Saadian dynasty died in 1557, and the location of the tomb was chosen because of the proximity of the important Kasbah mosque, which dates from the 12th century.

El Badii Palace

El Badii Palace

El Badii Palace means "palace of the incomparable" and is an architectural ensemble built in the late sixteenth century. The former palace was built by Saadi Sultan Ahmed al-Mansour Dhahbi to celebrate the victory over the Portuguese army in 1578, at the Battle of the Three Kings. Today, only huge landscaped gardens remained, planted with orange trees and surrounded by high walls. In 1696 Sultan Moulaj Ismaïl looted the riches of this palace, moved the capital to Meknes and took all the decorations from the palace with him to the new capital.

The Marrakesh Museum

The Museum of the City of Marrakesh is located in the Dar Mnebhi Palace, the former residence of Mehdi Mnebhi, the Minister of Defense of Abdelaziz of Moroco. The palace was built in the XIX century and is a shining example of classical Andalusian architecture. The museum was officially opened in 1997. Before it officially became a museum, the palace was used as a girls’ school. The museum building is very beautiful and the paved courtyard particularly stands out, as well as the rooms that are decorated in an unusual style.

The Yves Saint Laurent Museum

Located near the Jardin Majorelle - Yves San Laurent Museum occupies a new building of 4,000 m2. It features a 400 m2 permanent exhibition space dedicated to the work of Yves Saint Laurent, and it was designed by Christophe Martin. The museum includes a temporary exhibition hall, a research library with over 5,000 volumes, a 140-seat theater, a bookstore and a café on the terrace. The heritage preserved by the treasury allows us to discover the creative universe of Yves Saint Laurent. In addition to prototypes, important elements in the museum's collection are original sketches, studio sheets, collection boards, photographs and videos of shows on the runway, client's notebooks, etc.

The Menara Gradens

Menara Gardens are the most popular landscaped gardens in Marrakech, located west of the medina, near Mount Atlas. If peace and tranquility are your preference, then you should take some time to visit the Menara Gardens during your visit to the Red City of Morocco. The Menara Gardens date from the 12th century and are located near Mount Atlas, around the lake, from which fruits and vegetables planted on the surrounding land were watered. The way the lake is being restored is very impressive by itself because it is a 700-year-old hydraulic system, together with a complex network of underground canals that bring water to the lake from Mount Atlas, about 30 kilometers away. The most beautiful part of this green area is lake, as well as the thousands of olive trees that surround the area.
