El Badii Palace means "palace of the incomparable" and is an architectural ensemble built in the late sixteenth century. The former palace was built by Saadi Sultan Ahmed al-Mansour Dhahbi to celebrate the victory over the Portuguese army in 1578, at the Battle of the Three Kings. Today, only huge landscaped gardens remained, planted with orange trees and surrounded by high walls. In 1696 Sultan Moulaj Ismaïl looted the riches of this palace, moved the capital to Meknes and took all the decorations from the palace with him to the new capital.
There is a Minbar of the Kutubiyya Mosque in El Badi Palace. It is made of cedar wood and decorated with small inscriptions in gold and silver. If you climb the walls of the palace, you will see one of the most beautiful views of Marrakech. However, it should be borne in mind that there is really little left of the magnificent palace, because since the sultan took everything with him to the new capital, the palace was never completely renovated.
