The Yves Saint Laurent Museum

The Yves Saint Laurent Museum

Located near the Jardin Majorelle - Yves San Laurent Museum occupies a new building of 4,000 m2. It features a 400 m2 permanent exhibition space dedicated to the work of Yves Saint Laurent, and it was designed by Christophe Martin. The museum includes a temporary exhibition hall, a research library with over 5,000 volumes, a 140-seat theater, a bookstore and a café on the terrace.

The heritage preserved by the treasury allows us to discover the creative universe of Yves Saint Laurent. In addition to prototypes, important elements in the museum's collection are original sketches, studio sheets, collection boards, photographs and videos of shows on the runway, client's notebooks, etc.

The Foundation's assets include more than 5,000 pieces of high fashion clothing. The heart of the collection, enriched with ongoing acquisitions and donations, is based on choices made by the creator, season after season. The holdings include the entire haute couture collection made by Yves Saint Laurent between 1962 and 2002. The foundation also includes 65 Dior garments designed between 1955 and 1960, the period when Yves Saint Laurent was an assistant to Christian Dior, before he became the creative director of his fashion house. In addition to his high fashion and ready-to-wear collections, the creative genius of Yves Saint Laurent is expressed in costumes designed by the creator for actors and actresses.

The foundation’s collection includes over a hundred costumes and dozens of accessories that testify to Yves Saint Laurent’s extraordinary talent when designing for the stage and screen.

By the way, Yves Laurent spent his childhood in Marrakesh because his father was a military man, sent to serve in Morocco. The creator draws his love for Africa and the world from Morocco. From there, he later drew inspiration precisely from the motifs and folklore of Moroccan culture and customs.
