The Marrakesh Museum

The Marrakesh Museum

The Museum of the City of Marrakesh is located in the Dar Mnebhi Palace, the former residence of Mehdi Mnebhi, the Minister of Defense of Abdelaziz of Moroco. The palace was built in the XIX century and is a shining example of classical Andalusian architecture.

The museum was officially opened in 1997. Before it officially became a museum, the palace was used as a girls’ school. The museum building is very beautiful and the paved courtyard particularly stands out, as well as the rooms that are decorated in an unusual style. The rooms exhibit a collection of weapons, pottery and other Moroccan traditional items. The museum houses a diverse collection of traditional art objects from different regions of Morocco, such as carpets, costumes, ceramics from Fez, Berber jewelry, Jewish liturgical objects, etc. The museum also contains exhibits of contemporary art and other topics on the kitchen and hammam sections.

In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum also organizes temporary exhibitions, and you can also visit the beautiful hammam. Today, there is a huge central chandelier in the courtyard, composed of brass pieces carved into ornate geometric and arabesque motifs.
