Ljubljana:

The Railway Museum

The Railway Museum

The Railway Museum was established in the 1960s. Today, it has grown into a small, but overall a  very high-quality museum. When it became clear that the steam locomotive was being forgotten, the idea of creating a Slovenian railway was born. Belgrade got a railway museum in 1950, but that wasn’t the case for Ljubljana. After that, there was a need to open the same museum in the capital of Slovenia, which will keep the railway wealth in one place. The former boiler room "Ljubljana Šiška" was and remains the perfect place for a museum. First, locomotives and wagons got their parking next to the former boiler room. There is a great and interesting diversity in one place.

This museum is focused on the history of Slovenian railways, material and intangible. The collection includes 60 historic locomotives and more than 50 other vehicles.  Truly impressive to see. And a couple of thousand historical railway artifacts are on display. There is part of the collection of steam locomotives in the central building, and in the auxiliary building you can carts that then served to railway supervisors and railway maintenance workers, as well as various tools, devices such as telegraphs, teleprinters and radio stations.
