Homemade is the best! Central Market is a charming market located in the heart of Ljubljana, and one part of it is the work of Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik. In earlier years, this place served to make the locals meet and socialize. The market is divided into three parts: open-air market, covered market and part where there are food stores along the river Ljubljanica. These small shops are called "Plečnik's Covered Market".
In the Cantral Market you can buy not only fresh fruits and vegetables but also domestic Slovenian products, cheese, honey, wine, local olive oil, traditional pumpkin oil, bread from the wood-burning oven, nuts, fresh meat and fish. And you can buy some flowers to make a loved one happy.
This place often organizes certain events with a culinary theme, such as "from village to town", "Italian food market", "Beer & Burger Fest" and the like.
The ecological market is organized on Saturdays on Pogačarjev Square, while the famous Open Kitchen on Thursdays and Fridays from mid-March to the end of October is also located on Pogačarjev Square. In case of bad weather, the open market will be canceled. If you are already staying in Ljubljana, it is a very nice experience to visit the Open Kitchen where Slovenian chefs cook traditional dishes and food from different parts of the world. The prices of lunch or dinner are different, depending on what you choose to eat. Everything smells of local cuisine and local drinks here. Preparing food outdoors entices all your senses!
Over time, the Central Market is replenished with fine restaurants and places where you can buy fast food.
