The Benedictine abbey, Santa Maria de Montserrat, offers untold experiences. The view is only one of the reasons why you should choose Monserrat for your trip. At the height of 720 meters, the monastery that erects among rocky mountains represents a pilgrimage spot for the believers. It is also a holy place for Catalonia – there are over 300.000 books and important documents from the 12th century. The monastery is also famous for the children’s choir, the oldest in Europe.

Montserrat mountain and national park are an hour’s drive away from Barcelona, on the northeast. The word “mont” means a mountain, while the “sert” signifies a mountain region. Very specific mountain regions are among tourists’ favourites. In 1987, Montserrat was declared a national park.
