Barcelona:

Tibidabo Hill

Tibidabo Hill

Tibidabo is a mountain overlooking Barcelona that is over 500 meters high, and it is a part of the Collserola mountain range. Tibidabo’s main attraction is the Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor[1], designed by Enric Sagnier. The construction took place in the period between 1902 and 1960, and it is a mixture of the Modern and Neo Gothic style. Entrance is free, and inside you may see picturesque glasswork and beautiful stone arts. There is Christ’s statue at the top of the temple, and there is an elevator that takes you to the top of the building. For the price of 2 euros, it will take you to the first lookout. If you are not afraid of heights, take the stairs to the bronze Christ’s statue, and witness a memorable view of the whole Barcelona.
The church is opened from 07.00 to 22.00, however the elevator closes somewhat earlier, so you may want to be there before 19.00.

On the way to the mountain there is Tibidabo amusement park. Built in 1889, it has many exciting rides filled with adrenaline, a slide, a castle with ghosts, a house of surprises, a track, a wheel, etc. The very best attraction is the park’s location – right above Barcelona and the Mediterranean Sea. The movie Vicky, Christina, Barcelona was shot in this park. A popular attraction is also Girabado, a huge panoramic wheel with 20-meter diameter, 500 meters above the sea.

There is another attraction which is probably the most controversial one – Torre Collserola television and radio transmitter, 288 meters of height. It was built for the broadcast of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
