Madrid:

The Neptune Fountain

The Neptune Fountain

The Fountain of Neptune - You have a sense of peace wherever there is a fountainin the city. Madrid is rich in masterful fountains that are true masterpieces, with a rich history and designed by some of the greatest artists. Just looking at them makes time stand still and you forget about all the worries. One of them is the Neptune Fountain, which, in addition to the Cibeles Fountain, is considered one of the most elegant and beautiful fountains in the city. It belongs to the neoclassical style. The Neptune Fountain was made as an exhibition project, along with three other beautiful fountains (Cibeles, Apollo and the Four Seasons).

This fountain is located in the middle of the square of Canovas Del Castillo, and the god Neptune is the main statue of the fountain. Neptune is the god of the sea, who is on a large chariot in the shape of a shell, which emerges from the water, and which is pulled by two sea horses, while jets of water on all sides beautify the very sight of this great work of art. The four fountains were decorations at the "Salon del Prado" exhibition, which was commissioned by King Charles III. They had no idea that one day they would decorate the city so beautifully and that millions would admire the beauty of the fountain and the skill of the artist.

The great artist is the sculptor Juan Pascual, who did not manage to finish the fountain, so his apprentice Jose Arias did it for him. Both of them did a phenomenal job, worthy of the king's wish. All the carved parts on the fountain are made of white marble brought from Montes Claros.
