Las Américas is one of the most famous tourist resorts in the Canary Islands. It is situated in the south of Tenerife, near the famous town of Adeje. This resort was built according to the vision of businessman Rafael Luvina, who wanted to make that part of the shoreline a popular tourist destination for tourists from all over the Canary Islands. Construction started in the 1960s, and the resort’s success is obvious by the fact that every year, Tenerife is visited by around 5 million tourists.
The resort contains bars, night clubs, restaurants, various attractions, as well as beaches covered in yellow sand imported from Africa. The sand was imported because the local sand of the Canary Islands is volcanic in origin, which makes it black. The Playa de las Americas is the center of Tenerife’s night life.
Las Américas boasts five very popular beaches: Playa de Las Américas, Playa El Lobo, Playa de Troya, Playa Honda and Playa de Camison.
