Until the beginning of the 21st century, this was the place of warehouses, deserted factories and old vacant apartment buildings.

Fairchild is a museum, laboratory, learning center, and conservation research facility whose main role is preserving biodiversity. Its goal is to share the joy and beauty of tropical gardening. It was named after the renowned plant explorer David Fairchild, who also was the founder of the Fairchild in 1938. He was a scientist, he travelled the world in search of plants which may be of use to the Americans.
