The Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden

The Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden

One of the most beautiful and largest tropical botanic gardens on Florida is located in Miami – Fairchild. It expands on 83 hectares with extensive collections of rare tropical plants. Fairchild is a museum, laboratory, learning center, and conservation research facility whose main role is preserving biodiversity. Its goal is to share the joy and beauty of tropical gardening.

It was named after the renowned plant explorer David Fairchild, who also was the founder of the Fairchild in 1938. He was a scientist, he travelled the world in search of plants which may be of use to the Americans. In his travels, he visited every continent except Antarctica. He brought many plants from his travels, such as mango, lucerne, date palm, cotton, soy, bamboo, cherry trees that blossom in Washington. Doctor David Fairchild stationed in Miami in 1935 where he joined the group of people who gathered plants. Some of its member were extraordinary people such as general Robert H. Montgomery, district commissioner Charles Crandon, ecologist Marjory S. Douglas, and landscape architect William L. Philips. This amazing group of people put a lot of effort in achieving their goal of establishing a botanic garden, and they succeeded in 1938. Dr Fairchild was in charge of many plants that are even today in the garden, one of them being a baobab tree from Africa.

This is a fantastic place to take a walk and explore nature. Visitors often recommend the butterfly garden. There is also an affordable restaurant where you can have lunch, as well as a few cafés and gift shops. We recommend visiting in colder months, because there are mosquitos in heat, but be sure to apply sun protection.

The Botanical Garden offers the opportunity to celebrate your love in this very place, in a beautiful ambience of lush greenery and romantic flower embroidery. There are special package deals and offers if you decide to book your wedding here. You can check the deals and prices on the website.
