Miami:

The Venetian Islands

The Venetian Islands

The Venetian Islands – Biscayne Island, San Marco Island, San Marino Island, Di Lido Island, Rivo Alto Island, Flager Island and Belle Isle is a group of islands in Miami, which are named after sights and attraction from Venice. Common name for this group of artificial islands is the Venetian Islands. Flager Monument Island is a memorial to railroad pioneer Henry Flager. It was built in 1920, and it initially was a picnic spot.

The islands are connected by bridges to the mainland. They are connected with both the city and Miami Beach. The island complex was supposed to be even bigger that it is today. The islands were formed by discharging soil and sand, and in addition to pedestrian and bike lanes, as well as barbecue spots, there are also modern apartment buildings, so the islands represent a kind of suburb of Miami – a green oasis for pleasure.
