Miami-Dade County expands on 2.000 miles, it borders with the Atlantic Ocean, Biscayne Bay, the Everglades National Park and the Florida Keys islands. In present day, Miami-Dade is a subtropical region that is different not only from the rest of the states, but from Florida itself as well. Three hundred years ago, Miami-Dade was the place of a significant historical battle between the English and the French in the North, and the Spanish in the south.

Miami’s first skyscraper – the Courthouse. Miami is not like New York - it does not have giant skyscrapers. Low colorful buildings are characteristic for Miami. However, as construction developed, Miami started to build skyscrapers. There are not many of them, but there are enough – to be precise, there are 55 of them that are over 150 meters high. One of them is special because it is the first skyscraper in Miami. It is located downtown and it is different from modern glass skyscrapers. This skyscraper used to be Florida’s tallest building with 28 floors. Its construction began in 1925, and it was finished 3 years after. It is on West Flager Street, one of the busiest streets in the city.

There are luxurious boutiques and jewelry stores, expensive interior design shops. Craig Robins was able to recognize the potential of this place, so he bought a few buildings with the aim of completely redeveloping this part of the city by establishing a community which would create something new and different through design, unusual architecture, art and culture. The Venetian Islands

The Venetian Islands – Biscayne Island, San Marco Island, San Marino Island, Di Lido Island, Rivo Alto Island, Flager Island and Belle Isle is a group of islands in Miami, which are named after sights and attraction from Venice. Common name for this group of artificial islands is the Venetian Islands. Flager Monument Island is a memorial to railroad pioneer Henry Flager. It was built in 1920, and it initially was a picnic spot.

Surfside is a small Miami city. It has only 6 thousand citizens, and it is a small community with many interesting differences. The city was established in 1935 with only 35 citizens. It was and it has remained as small community on the Atlantic shore where the citizens established small enterprises to develop local tourism. The intimacy of this place is what attracts visitors along with pleasant locals and tranquil atmosphere. The beaches are fantastic for surfing, and they are not as crowded as those in Miami Beach. Social life is centered downtown, and it offers fun for both the young and families. Surfside offers everything a city does, but on smaller scale. Surfside is, actually, a small Miami.
