The sights of Vienna tell the tale of its magnificence. The Prater is not only a big wheel of Vienna, but it is a big part of Vienna that takes up the surface of 6 million square metres, and there is also an amusement park there called “The Wurstelprater” which is the oldest park of this kind in the world. The famous Viennese wheel, known as The Prater, is an unavoidable place for fun in Vienna and it even has the most beautiful view of the city. In one year, 4 million people visit the Prater. A long time ago, the property on which the Prater is today belonged to Joseph II and it served for his hunting. In 1766, this area became a space for fun and recreation for Viennese people and of public character. Many restaurants, cafes and carousels opened here.
The Hundertwasser House in Vienna is a building of an extraordinary appearance due to its façade. It was designed by the Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser with the architect Joseph as his co-author. This work of art today attracts numerous tourists and it really is something that one should visit in Vienna. Its appearance is so recognizable that it is basically impossible not to notice it. It has a very colourful colour palette on it, and as such resembles houses from children’s picture books. An interesting fact is that anyone who lives here can add a pattern and make decorations around their windows according to their imagination.
One of the most famous and most beautiful trade and pedestrian zones in the heart of Vienna is Karntner Street. It takes the area from Stephen’s Square up to Ring (Karl’s Square). Many cafes, shops, boutiques and a huge tree line of lindens that takes up the greatest part of the street are all there. Gracious Koruška Street makes any type of walk a great pleasure and enjoyment. A long time ago, this street had the name of Strata Carintianorum. In XIX it gained today’s appearance. In that period, many old houses were destroyed in order for this street to be expanded and be comparable to all trade streets of world metropolis.
The “Donner” fountain was made by Georg Rafael Donner, and it was built in 1793. This baroque fountain, of a very beautiful appearance, became widely popular among tourists in 1995 after Generation X’s film “Before Sunrise” with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. When the fountain was built under the reign of Empress Maria Theresa, it was deemed unsuitable for the public because it contained much nudity. An artist Johann Martin got the task to redo the fountain, what was done in 1801. Instead of destroying it, as the plan was, he altered it and renewed it. He thought that the fountain had its value and its artistic expression.
The Capuchin Church is both a church and a convent and it is close to the Hofburg Palace. This Catholic church is of very modest dimensions and simple. Its most famous trait is that it has a royal crypt and it is the place where all members of the Habsburg Royal Family are buried. The real name of the church is The Saint Mary of the Angels, however, it is more known as the Capuchin Church. Anna of Tyrol, wife of Roman Emperor Matthias Habsburg, gave the church as a gift to the city of Vienna through her will.
