London:

Covent Garden

Covent Garden

Covent Garden is a charming London neighborhood which boasts a large number of shops, markets and balconies for tourists to drink tea on. The place is also a hub of street artists who often have great performances of all sorts.

Looking back, the area where Covent Garden is located once belonged to the Duke of Bedford. In 1631, it was converted into a public garden, and thirty years later the first shops were opened in the area. These shops offered fruits and vegetables, and were very popular among the locals for their fresh produce. Soon after, flower shops began springing up in the area, which prompted the unstoppable growth of the area, until the 19th century, when it all culminated with the construction of a market which had departments and sections that offered all that you could want.

The first shopping mall was opened where the market had been in 1974, and it offered fabric, souvenirs and, of course, food. Today, as before, this neighborhood is beautiful for the many people who visit the area and who all contribute to the growth and development of this part of London. Even today, you can buy handmade souvenirs in the shops, as well as visit some of the cafes and bars that tourist simply adore. Some stands even make the food right in front of you. Make sure you have some biscuits with your tea!
