The most important shopping area in Venice is Calle Larga XXII Marzo. It is located near the central square of St. Marco, and here one can find shops of the Italian and international luxury brands. The date 22 March, after which the street got its name, has a great significance for Venice. During its checkered history, Venice was under the Austrian rule. On March 22 in 1848, Venetian people rebelled and demanded that two local patriots be set free, Danielle Manin and Nicola Tomaze. In this revolution, the Austrians were expelled from the city and Venice was again declared a republic. Mr. Manin was elected president of the Venetian republic.
Opening hours: Most shops are open every day from 9:00h to 19:30h.
