The most important festival in Herceg Novi is surely the Mimosa Festival, organized since 1969 to honor the Mimosa flower as the symbol of the Herceg Novi Riviera, as well as the city itself. The flower blooms in February, therefore, the festival is organized in February and March, lasting exactly a month. The chance to see the flower along the Adriatic coast, a yellow bloom by the highway, and to feel its potent smell is a wonderful experience of its own kind, and the yellow flowers truly complete the Riviera with their vibrant color.
The program of the festival is very diverse and events are organized in both open and closed venues, with the main events including the opening ceremony, a majorette dance, fish festival, free wine and music by the shore, flower exhibition, concerts of famous music stars of the region, masquerades, an exhibition of authentic local products, plays, wine tastings, book promotions, Mediterranean music nights, home-cooked meal bazaars etc. All of these events are organized throughout the Herceg Novi Riviera, along the shore, in hotels, restaurants, galleries, as well as in the unique ambient of the city tavern, on its wonderful balcony overlooking the city.
