Montjuïc Castle

Montjuic Hill is located above the city, and it is 185 meters high. The view it offers is magnificent, the whole Barcelona seems like it is on a palm of your hand. There are many lookouts, as we as the main stadium where the Olympics in 1992 were held. It has the capacity of 54.000 seats. It was built because of the Olympics in 1936 that were supposed to be held there, but were held in Berlin instead. Nowadays, it is a popular concert venue, where musicians such as The Rolling Stones, U2, AC/DC, Metallica, Madonna, Bon Jovi, Shakira, Pink Floyd have performed.

Montjuic Castle is a military fortress which dates back to the 17th century. During the war, it played an important role in defending not only the city, but the whole province. Many conquered this fortress, including Napoleon, and it was a prison for a certain period of time. In 1940, Luis Companys, the former president of Catalonia, was shot at in the fortress. The fortress offers a pretty view of the city and its environment. The military museum that is worth visiting is also located there.

Every week after 15:00 the entrance is FREE.
 
Working hours of the Montjuic fortress
from October to March: from 10:00 to 18:00
April to September: 10:00 to 20:00
