The Museum of America is housed in a very beautiful and modern building, and stories about America are told through maps, globes, video recordings, photographs, and various artifacts. As throughout history, Spain was very connected with America, so in 1941, the idea was created to open a museum dedicated to this continent. In 1954, the Museum of America was opened, with a special emphasis on "Spanish America". The main collection in the museum concerns American archeology and ethnography as well as ancient collections. In addition, American history up to the time of Christopher Columbus is housed in this museum. The museum's collection includes more than 25.000 items, through which American culture is significantly introduced. Some of the items in this museum belonged to the royal family of Spain. The museum is filled with many years of collecting objects, finding, gifts and donations from all over the world. The museum was founded in 1941, and opened in 1944 in the building where the National Archaeological Museum is located. However, the museum was moved to the new premises of the Ciudad Universitaria when the building was officially opened in 1965.
