The Naval Museum of Madrid

Maritime Museum in Madrid. The entire Spanish maritime history is housed in the Maritime Museum, which is also the seat of the Spanish Navy. For lovers of maritime affairs, this museum is the right place, because it contains all the Spanish maritime history from the earliest beginnings until the 20th century. The Spanish Maritime Museum was founded in 1842. The museum's collection includes various items, such as naval uniforms, models of ships, portraits of captains and sailors, nautical charts, pictures of battles at sea, weapons from the sea and land, flags, crowns.

Here is the queen of all Spanish maps "Mappa Mundi" from the year of 1500, which represents a map of the world. In addition, the museum exhibits a real gem among the maps - a parchment map, which is the first ever known map of the American continent, from the cartographer Juan de la Cosa. This map was created around 1500, when the mentioned cartographer traveled to America with Christopher Columbus. In addition to the navy, this museum is also dedicated to the military forces of Spain.

A visit to this museum is really recommended, it is rich in ancient history, very interesting to everyone, and it really shows how great the Spaniards were. Spain was one of the strongest naval powers in the world in the 16th century, and this museum shows and proves that. The museum shows the life of Spanish sailors who discovered some new worlds or died trying to discover them.
