Madrid:

The Cybele Palace

The Cybele Palace

The Cybele Palace is located on the square of the same name. It is also known as the Palace of Communications. This grand white building is one of the most beautiful in Madrid. It consists of two buildings, which house the historic centers of Spain. This building once housed Madrid's main post office, as well as telegraph and telephone centers. Today it is a center of culture. As the population of Madrid grew, so did the need to create a postal communications center. And that was the original purpose of this palace. Construction began at the beginning of the 20th century, and lasted for 12 years.

It was officially opened in 1919. The opening of the palace on March 14, 1919 was enhanced by King Alfonso XIII and his wife Victoria. Their visit and tour of the palace lasted for 2 hours. One of the main tasks of the palace was to work on postal traffic. Perhaps this was one of the most beautiful main post offices in Europe. Palm trees were planted in front of the palace in 1920, and it became the seat of the Spanish bank in 1927.

Important historical events took place and were celebrated in front of the palace, such as the proclamation of the Second Spanish Republic, on April 14, 1931. During the Spanish Civil War, Madrid was under siege, and this palace was shot at. Even today, bullet holes can be seen on its facade. Although damaged, it is always grandiosely beautiful. Various exhibitions can often be seen in the palace.

Entrance to the palace is free, except for the pointview on the 8th floor.
The entrance fee for the pointview is 3 €
Reduced entrance fee for the pointview 1.50 € - for children from 2 to 14 years, for students and pensioners
People with disabilities pay 1 € entrance

The palace has a restaurant and cafeteria, as well as a Terrace-Bar, which do not work only on Tuesdays.
