The Mataderos Fair got its name from the neighborhood where it takes place. We highly recommend that you visit this fair if you want to be introduced to the history and tradition of Buenos Aires, as well as Argentina as a whole. The fair is organized where a cattle market used to stand. The cattle that used to be taken to Mataderos was not only sold, but also inspected and sent for inspection and further consumption.
The fair contains almost a thousand stands, attracting around 15 thousand visitors every week. Food, traditional Argentine costumes and accessories, such as the famous poncho or typical Argentine hats can all be bought and seen here. If you happen to come to the area between 12am and 3pm, we guarantee that you will enjoy your experience, because, at this time, traditional Argentine cuisine is on offer. For example, you will be able to taste tamales, which is meat served in a corn husk and cooked on steam, or locro, which is a rich meat and corn goulash.
Traditional music is also played at the fair, and sports contests are no rarity.
It is important to note that the fair is organized every week on Sundays between 10am and 8pm. The fair is open April thru December
