Apart from the Sacher cake, another sweet what is an association of Vienna are Mozart balls. This Austrian brand is recognizable and wanted all over the world. Mozart balls appeared in 1890, according to the recipe of the confectioner Paul Frust. These sweet balls is what he made as an honour of Mozart. They were made in Salzburg, because that’s where Mozart lived and worked for a long time.

When Frust made the balls, they became very popular, and they were, as they are today, very delicious. However, he didn’t patent his recipe, so at the beginning of XX century, in the factory Rajsigl in Salzburg, the production of the original Mozart balls according to his recipe started. At first, the production of ballswas manual, and later, because of the great demand in Europe and the rest of the world, the production of Mozart balls became industrial. For an industrial production of each ball around 2.30h is needed.

The original Mozart balls are still put today in blue-silver wraps. They are sold as sweets in Vienna and the whole Austria, people buy them as souvenirs, but only in Salzburg do they sell the real, original ones.
