The Luxembourg Gardens are one of the most beautiful parks in Paris. The gardens were created according to the wishes of Maria Medici in 1612. Here visitors shall also find a palace that was built together with the garden between 1612 and 1617. Maria Medici insisted that the palace and gardens were built in the Italian style because she was from Florence. In memory of her childhood, she decided to build this beautiful building, which today is owned by the French Senate.
The gardens were later expanded enough and got their present appearance and size in 1792. During the French Revolution, the palace was transformed into a prison, and during World War II, the Germans used the building as barracks - digging a bunker in the garden.
Nowadays, the gardens are home to six tennis courts and impressive sculptures worthy of visitors' attention. The Luxembourg Gardens are one of the most charming attractions in Paris for locals and tourists alike. This is the ideal place to rest after a long day of sightseeing in Paris. The park has several metal benches surrounded by numerous statues and sculptures, a perfect place to relax and enjoy the fresh air. Puppet shows are also organized in the park, which are especially interesting for children.
