The Black Poda

The Black Poda

The Black Poda Old-growth Forest is an old pine forest located in the Tara river basin, between Bistrica and Dobrilovina, situated at a height of 950 meters above sea level. The forest consists mostly of black pine trees, which is why it has the name Crna Poda. This Old-growth forest is one of the last 3 of its kind. It has a diversity of 26 different plant habitats with over 220 different plant species and sub-species, the most abundant of which are pine, spruce, fir and beech trees, some of which are more than 500 years-old.

The forest covers an area of 20 hectares, with some of the pine trees reaching a height of 45 meters. Crna Poda are the lungs of Montenegro, and the area boasts some of the purest air in the country. Many tours are organized in Žabljak to enable visitors to enjoy the forest and its ambience.

The Black Poda Forest is located near the Biogradska Gora National Park.
