Durmitor:

Bobotov Kuk Peak

Bobotov Kuk Peak

Bobotov Kuk is the highest peak of the Durmitor, but not the highest peak of Montenegro. The peak stands at 2523 meters above sea level. Accompanied by two other peaks, Bezimeni Vrh (2487m) and Đevojka (2440m), it completes the highest stone ridge of Durmitor, called Soa Nebeska, meaning “the pillar of the sky“. Bobotov kuk was once named Ćirova Pećina, in honor of the Žabljak-native hunter, Ćiro Stijepović. The peak is impressive no matter where you are looking at it from. The famous story tells us of Ćiro, who, while out hunting with his son at Bobotov Kuk, thought he saw a chamois. As the fog at the peak is very dense, and was so at the time, Ćiro fired his weapon, accidentally killing his son. Legend has it that this was a punishment inflicted on Ćiro by a forest fairy, a patron of chamois, because of his ill intent.

The ascent to the highest peak of the Durmitor is a serious task which attracts mountaineers and fans of of nature from all parts of the region and the world. It is no small achievement to stand at the throne of the Durmitor
