Buenos Aires Museum of Modern Art - The MAMBA (spanish: Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires) is an experimental museum of modern art of San Telmo. The museum is located in a former tobacco factory, and was only opened several years ago. As the museum focuses on local artists, you will be able to get acquainted with the artistic movements of Argentina. The museum is beloved by the locals because it is the pride of Buenos Aires due to its elevation of Argentine culture. The museum displays more than 7 thousand pieces modern and contemporary art. Its artwork date between the 1950s and the current day. Apart from its paintings and sculptures, the MAMBA also houses pieces of industrial and graphic design.
The MAMBA also hold temporary exhibitions. It displays several hundred photographs by Aldo Sessa, which show scenes from the artist’s travels.
Photographs by Alberto Goldenstein, most notably the “Mundo del Arte” collection, which contains portraits of Argentine artists, are also included in the museum’s collection.
The museum is a cult place for its movie projections, and during the International Independent Film Festival of Buenos Aires, which is one of the most important festivals of film in South America, the museum is visited by many people because it shows the movies that premiered at the festival.
