Is there any way in which you can start off your new year better than this- with the sound of classical music lasting around 3 hours magic and the feeling of holiday atmosphere start, along with the Viennese New Year’s concert. This is a tradition that everyone goes back to. A musical spectacle that takes place on January 1st is attentively watched by those in the concert hall, both them and those outside in front of it, along with many people around the world in front of their screens. This is the city of tunes, the waltz, the city of magic that start on the first day in the new year with dedication to one composer.

The Viennese New Year’s concert is a concert of classical music, which became the tradition of Vienna a long time ago, and it is very much respected all around the world. It is held on January 1st every year, in the Golden Hall. The concert is dedicated to Strauss and here you can listen to different works of this great composer. Apart from his melodies, you can also hear well-known melodies of other composers that left a great mark on the Viennese cultural epoch. Here you enjoy the melody of waltz, march, polka etc. Through this event good energy and optimism are spread, just like it goes with New Year holidays.

This concert is streamed live on TV in as many as 44 countries in the world. The Viennnese concert of classical music was first held on December 31st in 1939. Back then, the conductor was Klemens Klaus. Since 1941, the concert is held on the first day of the new year, at noon sharp. Maybe the most famous melody that Viennese philharmonicists perform is “The Beautiful Blue Danube” by Johann Strauss.

The philharmonic orchestra is always accompanied with a huge applause. The hall in which the concert is held belong to the Viennese Music Society, and when the concert is held, the hall is embellished with flowers which in 1980, Vienna got as a gift from San Remo, so since then, it has been raised in Viennese flowershops. Since when the concert was first held, 16 conductors conducted the Vienna Philharmonic, and since 2017, the conductor has been Gustavo Dudamel. Many conductors dream of conducting this orchestra, since it is a great honour for everyone who is in this job, i.e. in this world of art.

The Vienna Philharmonic concert is popular widely across Europe and the whole world, however, the tickets for this are hard to find. Additionally, they are quite expensive, since the most usual guests in the audience are “crème de la crème” of Austrian society. For regular citizens, there is the concert live stream on TV, and there is also the sale of videos of the concert.
