Estrela Gardens is located across from Basilica Estrela and is very popular. It is very well landscaped and provides a nice atmosphere. Lush greenery is the main feature of the park and enthusiasm is inevitable. This is one of the best parks in the city, and spreads over 4.6 hectares in the central part of Lisbon. What gives it additional charm are the historical details, surrounded by the Basilica Estrela on one side, while on the other side of the park there is an old English cemetery and the Military Hospital. The English cemetery dates from the 18th century, and the most famous Portuguese novelist, Henry Fielding, who lived in Lisbon, is buried here. His famous work is called "Tom Jones".
The approach to the park itself is impressive because of the cast iron gate. Estrela is adorned with a lake with ducks and geese, bird twitters, exotic trees, various plants and sculptures. It is a great place for all generations. It also offers a playground for kids, which makes it suitable for families with children. There is a café next to the lake where you can have a drink and enjoy all the charms of a city park with a soul.
The park was built in 1842. The then statesmen Bernardo da Costa Cabral and Marquez de Tomar were in charge of its creation. Some parts of it are inspired by parks from England. It is considered one of the most beautiful parks in Lisbon.
Locals often choose this park for relaxation. It is certain that you will relax here and enjoy the walk. With all the peace that the park provides, you will be able to clear your mind and absorb some new energy.
The full name of the park is "Jardim Guerra Junqueiro", but it is known as Jardim da Estrela.
